27. Trailing Arm Bushings

The trailing arm bushings are from a Triumph Spitfire as recommended by the book. The bushings measure 13/16" OD, 1.4" long and they take a 3/8" bolt. The bushing can be press-fit into commonly available 1"OD tubing with a .095" wall thickness.

1) Start by hand with the tapered end of the bushing. Don't use grease since this is a dry fit...

  

2) a bench vise is used as a press to get things started...

 

3) a small socket is used as a ram rod to continue the process ...

4) a large socket on the far side allows the bushing to be pressed all the way through....

5) It may be necessary to reverse the setup (not shown) and press the
bushing back from whence it came to get things lined up.
